Indie Retailer of the Day: Cyberoptix TieLab

24 May 2008 No Comment

When I worked in a retail pharmacy, we were all supposed to dress professionally even though we wore these enormous white vests over everything anyway. The dress code actually benefited women since we were just required to were slacks/skirt and any decent looking shirt that had sleeves. The guys had to wear slacks, a button up shirt and a tie. Because that was far removed from how they dressed in actual out-of-work life, the each guy had a work wardrobe that consisted of about two pairs of slacks and three shirts that were rotated. They switched ties up more often to make it look like they weren’t really just wearing the same outfit every day for a week (which they were).

Cyberoptix TieLab ties are a bit high end for a tie ($30-$45 range) but if you are an office worker that doesn’t have much choice in expressing yourself through your clothing, they can help make it clear that you are at least partially doing things against your will. The ties are hand-screened by artist Bethany Shorb using high quality water-based inks on either silk, microfiber or cotton.
