Luckily, it looks like Gustav was a much less severe hurricane than had been predicted There was some flooding in New Orleans, and power is out throughout the region, but nothing like what people were expecting. Everyone was fortunate that Gustav weakened before it made landfall, and it also hit somewhat to the east of where it has been expected, meaning it didn’t go right over the major population centers.

I’m at my father’s house for the holiday and my internet connection is spotty (and apparently some people consider it rude if you blatantly ignore them in favor of your laptop) so I’m tossing up this roundup. There isn’t a theme and it is not my intent to trivialize the important stories (i.e. the water rising in New Orleans) with my brevity. The top item on my “must do” list- also the item that gets bumped to the bottom constantly- is to travel outside the United States. I’m the only one of my friends that hasn’t yet and I would love nothing better than to take off for a few weeks to navigate through Peru or tour through Europe. But even budget traveling costs more than I have ever had (or currently have) at my disposal.
