Well, I just found out what I’m doing this weekend. Stanford University has launched 10 online courses in the areas of computer science and electrical engineering. Free to download, each course includes lectures (video and transcripts), handouts, assignments and exams. You don’t have to register. You won’t be able to interact with the professor of the course but you can with the other virtual students doing the coursework. 
The 10 current courses are divided into three categories: Introduction to Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Linear Systems and Optimization.

Internet hacker coalition Anonymous (they of the Scientology Rickrolling) broke into the Yahoo email address that Sarah Palin was controversially using for governmental business. Five screen caps were taken inside Palin’s email box. There’s nothing really incriminating in the screenshots. They portray her as being power hungry, vindictive, God fearing and a bit loose on the specifics of grammar and spelling. But none of that is surprising. It seems that it was a member of Anonymous that informed Palin’s team of the hacking. She’s since deleted both of her “private” …

Artist David V. Moore’s surreal paintings really resonate with me both in the choices he makes with “natural” settings and the whimsy he follows with their surreal twists. I’m most attracted to his digital prints, but feel free to browse his abstract hand-painted works on canvas as well. The pieces are quite evocative, make good use of light/colour, and demonstrate a sense of wonder without being too “out there” to hang in a common living space. Considering how nerdy those involved with this blog are, and how much we enjoy nostalgia, it’s really quite shocking there has yet to be a They Might Be Giants themed Late Night Work Break. I intend to rectify that situation right now. And I imagine they’ll be featured again. Now that I’m listening to them again, it’s so hard to pick just one or 5 favorite of their songs.
