You can see our liveblogging of the debate below, and we’ll have more substantive analysis later.  But I just wanted to share something I heard on PBS.  An analyst from Politico said (paraphrasing), “If you’re judging this based on the way you’d usually judge a debate-who had the best, most substantive answers, who actually answered the questions that were asked-there’s no doubt who won.”

I understand that John McCain is joking in the quote below (CNN even points that out) but if you’re a public figure, you have to be aware of narratives that exist about you. And if one of the negative narratives surrounding you is entitlement, you might not want to “joke” this way: 
Sen. John McCain jokingly said Thursday that Sen. Barack Obama’s poll numbers are rising as the economy seems to sink “because life isn’t fair.“

The American News Project has put together a ten minute film focused on the lack of media scrutiny surrounding Sarah Palin’s religious beliefs and how these beliefs would effect her political decisions. It is a thoughtful piece that illustrates what questions should be asked of Palin for the voters to know how her Christian fundamentalism would play out on the national (and global) stage.

Assuming that Biden manages to not say anything overtly sexist, he’s going to have little trouble seeming more capable than Sarah Palin.
