A Miami-Dade circuit judge Tuesday declared Florida’s 30-year-old ban on gay adoption unconstitutional, allowing a North Miami man to adopt two foster kids he has raised since 2004.
Florida has long been behind the curve on this issue, but with the passage of both Prop 8 and Arkansas’ little bit o’ stupidity, it had seemed that nationally we were regressing rather than progressing. Nice to see a reversal of course, so to speak.

One of my newer pet peeves is people who, regarding Obama’s appointment of a person with Beltway experience, say snidely: “Well, that’s not change we can believe in.” As if there were ever a chance that he’d just promote people from his street team to Cabinet level positions. As if that would work out well. I’m not saying I’m 100% happy with everyone he’s chosen but I can at least understand why he chose them. Which- compared to the last eight years- is a change we can believe in.
