Begich Ahead of Stevens in AK Senate Race

13 November 2008 No Comment

Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK) isn’t one to let a few felonies stand between him and his Senate seat but apparently the citizens of Alaska feel differently. Mark Begich, his Democratic opponent (and mayor of Anchorage), is now ahead by 814 votes with approximately 35,000 ballots left to count within the next week. Begich’s surge forward was created by the counting of 60,000 absentee, questioned and early ballots that leaned towards the Democrat.  If Begich wins, it will be the first time since 1968 that Stevens’ isn’t in the Senate. A Democratic victory would also prevent she who shall not be named from inventing a mission from God that puts her on track to replace Stevens.
