I hope you’re all out partying; we only have three more new years before the Mayan apocalypse!
I’m having a wild night of playing Playstation 3 with friends, drinking beers, and occasionally taking a break for the Twilight Zone marathon.  All in all, a good start to the year.  Hope it starts well for all of you as well.

I admit that I have no idea how often a modern, working male would need to wear cufflinks. My guess is “not often”. But wouldn’t you be more likely to wear them  if said cufflinks were made of Legos, Monopoly pieces, typewritter keys or Scrabble tiles?
The “Retro Classy” cufflinks from Groglmann are so kitschy cool that I’m tempted to buy some men’s dress shirts to which I can  fasten some little Storm Troopers to.

Snarky Cards pack so much brutal honesty per card they make the folks at Someecards look modest and polite by comparison. Alisa Starr, Snarky’s mastermind, creates the cards using acrylics and watercolors on postcards. The text is added with an Olympia typewriter for a vintage/serial killer vibe, which- added to the simplistic imagery- makes the cards seem as if they came from a highly demented elementary school student. And, yes, I actually mean that as a compliment.
There’s some adult themes under the cut so if you feel a little faint …

In yet another sign that for some folks too much is never enough, Jeb Bush is eyeing a Senate run in 2010. Via Politico:
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush — the son of one president and the brother of another — has been working the phones since Sen. Mel Martinez (R-Fla.) announced earlier this month that he won’t seek reelection in 2010. Sources say Bush hasn’t made up his mind about running for Martinez’ seat, but that he’s getting green lights from would-be contributors and blessings from Republican Party leaders.
One would …

I stumbled upon this etsy shop courtesy of a lovely flickr page, and voila, Dilkabear is on the radar. Quirky almost-caricatures of interesting women.  Check them out.

This is the last Friday Night Fluff piece of 2008. There’s a superstition that whatever you are doing at midnight on New Year’s Eve (other than drinking) is going to be a predominant theme in the new year. For example, if you’re at a party with friends, you’ll be spending a lot of time with them next year. If you’re at an office party, prepare to be doing a lot of working. If you, like me, will be slumped over a keyboard, expect to spend 2009 attached to your laptop …

Okay, day after Christmas, back at it. Paul Krugman graced us with this in yesterday’s New York Times:
…President-elect Barack Obama, riding a wave of revulsion over what conservatism has wrought, has said that he wants to “make government cool again.”
Before Mr. Obama can make government cool, however, he has to make it good.
True enough, as the last eight years have stripped a lot of the “good” out of government. For inspiration, Krugman looks to the New Deal and the wave of reforms swept in along with it:
How did F.D.R. manage …

Today, Christmas Eve, is the 40th anniversary of the taking of this photograph by Apollo 8 astronaut William Anders:

So much in that picture. Wonder. Fragility. The need for togetherness. The hope of a better day. The tremendous improbability of this beautiful world. The necessity the better angels of our natures have become. All thoughts appropriate to the day.
Here’s to peace and hope. Merry Christmas, everyone.

Wordpress has granted me the (increasingly rare) privilege of signing in so I thought I should put a post up. But since I am currently sitting in the lobby of an Emergency Room (spider bite- not mine), I’m going to have to phone it in a bit and post the draft of a comic.

What’s Christmas without a little Brian Setzer? Why, it’d hardly be Christmas at all, and that’s the truly odd part about it. Back in the early 80’s, never in my wildest Stray-Cats-pompadour dreams did I think that Setzer would turn into a holiday icon. Yet here he is, in all his greaser glory:

Yep. Now it’s Christmas, dammit.
