National Geographic has up photos of six of the “1,068 new species that have been discovered in Southeast Asia’s Greater Mekong River region in the last ten years–an average of two a week, the international conservation group WWF announced today.”
Which is all just a scientific excuse for my posting a cool looking green pit viper:
And, for Ben, the spider (put under a cut because some people aren’t fond of looking at spiders):
Its name is Heteropoda maxima and it enjoys taking long walks in Laos on its 12 inch legspan.

The only thing I have in common with Indiana Jones is the whole snake deal; between that and the spider, this single post is going to give me the crawlies for the rest of the month.
The spider I can understand but the snake is so cute! I’d want one as a pet.
But it looks really pissed off.
Nah, he’s just happy to see you.
You’re starting to sound like my older brother. Next you’re going to tell me to pet the damn thing.
Haha. If I had the snake (and you and I were in the same room), I would tell you to pet it.
That is an awesome looking snake. I hope it eats the spider.
That is an awesome looking snake
I knew I could count on you to be on board with the snake appreciation. I’ve often wondered why snakes don’t phase me at all. My guess is because of those huge boas and whatnot they had us hold in elementary school.
That is an awesome looking snake. I hope it eats the spider.
Sigh… Okay, I know when I’m outnumbered.
That is an awesome looking snake. I hope it eats the spider.
That is an absolutely fantistic idea… Love the snake LOATHE the spider
[...] this a sequel to the Coolest. Snake. Ever. post from yesterday in which everyone (except Will) fell in love with a green pit [...]
