Attention all: I will gladly turn my back on my long-held faith traditions, stop going to Church, burn my Christmas tree, and join up with the radical, secular, homosexual agenda’s War on Christmas if it means I never, ever have to hear that song “Last Christmas” again.
Or any song played in the grocery store this time of year.

I’d pretty much sell my soul to the devil if it meant I never had to see a diamond jewelry commercial again.
Amen.
um can we talk about christmas songs that in our heart of hearts we love love love and would play year round if it were socially acceptable?
I’m not sure there are any Christmas songs I even moderately like. What songs do you love, Dave?
To be completely honest there are a few I can stand, but you’re not likely to hear them at the supermarket. I like the Ventures’ Christmas album, but I like all surf guitar. The Black Lips’ “Christmas in Baghdad” is a favorite as well. The Reigning Sound has a nice one called “If Christmas can’t bring you home”
Okay, so you might hear the Ventures at the supermarket, but it’s way better than most.
Oddly enough, my very Puerto Rican parents who lived in The Bronx for 30+ years absolutely love the Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton Christmas album and tortured me throughout my childhood with it every December. I do not like that album.
Dave- I will happily join that conversation. My Dad has a huge Christmas collection, and I actually really enjoy Christmas music overall.
“O Come All Ye Faithful/Adeste Fideles” is one of my favorites. The harmonies meant for the last verse are beautiful. “What Child is This” and “O Come Emmanuel” are probably in top three if it’s a good version. And my family has always loved, “The Rebel Jesus” by The Chieftains.”
Going the non-traditional route, I also enjoy “Christmas in Baghdad,” and “Fairytale of New York,” Pogues or No Use For a Name version.
What are yours?
Oh! And how could I forget the Sufjan Stevens Christmas album?
The Blenders’ cover of
Sleigh Ride.Okay so when I wrote that, not gonna lie, was talking about Mariah Carey’s “All I want for Christmas is You” …. its just so catchy. Also Phil Specter’s “Christmas (Baby Please come Home)”.
And I think “Silent Night” is genuinely pretty. There’s another few but I can’t think of them. But mostly I was thinking of Mariah Carey.
Oh, Dave, I must be honest. That song is one of the one’s I was thinking of when I wrote the original post.
Have you never worked retail this time of year? *shudder*
Acallidryas: was it you that, in high school, had “White Christmas” stuck in your head for a few months? And kept trying to get it stuck in other people’s heads?
Yes. Yes, it was.
That sounded about right. Why is your name coming up with a link sometimes?
