2010 Is Still Looking Up
The GOP had to choose their new chair this past Friday. After looking at the candidates, the way the election was run, and who emerged as the winner, I’m feeling better and better about the Democrats’ political future.

I have recently become obsessed with Cold War Kids, a band from Calilfornia that’s been around for a while and had occasional radio play. I’ve been trying to describe their sound to people, and I keep saying that they’re like the White Stripes, kinda, at least musically-the songs are rhythm, driven, without a strong melody, and often with discordant notes that mash with the dysfunctional, discordant world painted by the lyrics.
A few heroic individuals in Austin, TX decided to test their cities’ zombie notification system by putting up a warning message on various road signs.
On Thursday, President Obama signed his first bill into law: The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. I’m actually incredibly happy about this bill, which only makes sense and ensures that the spirit of the Equal Pay Act is upheld. Rather than a person only having 6 months to bring a lawsuit after the pay discrimination [...]
It is that time of year again, when a group of liberal bloggers (led by Skippy, Jon Swift and Blue Gal) open up their blogrolls to any who ask. The tradition stems back three years to a day when some high traffic bloggers decided they’d host a day of blogroll bloodshed and strip their list o’ links of what they considered filler. Skippy and Jon were good enough to reappropriate the title so that it now stands for bloggy solidarity.
B.A.D. is taking place from today until Tuesday. If you would like to be added to our blogroll, simply leave a comment in this post and it will be done. We appreciate a link in return but it isn’t mandatory.
Plan 9 From Outer Space gets a bad rap. It is nowhere close to being the worst movie ever made (my vote for that would be I Spit On Your Grave). The plot, while imperfect, makes sense within the confines of the film and the acting is quite good compared to many of the B movie babies it spawned. The movie is even a bit heartbreaking at times when Bela Lugosi is on the screen. if you know the backstory (that he was late in his life and struggling with a serious drug addiction).
I am a big fan of “to do” lists because I usually have a lot going on and I’m working with a very small, cluttered memory span. While Remember the Milk does the trick for me online, I’m still a fan of the pen and paper variety because of one thing: stickers. Yes, at 27 years old I am still incredibly motivated by charts with stickers awarded for achievement. How’s that for social conditioning?
It was through the stickers that I came to find MAUstudio. Came for the little ninja stickers, stayed for the accessories and stationary.
CNN is confirming that Obama has spoken with Sen. Judd Gregg (R-NH) concerning the commerce secretary position left open when Bill Richardson dropped out. This is an interesting situation. Yes, it promotes that bipartisanship that Obama has been so fond of. But if Gregg took the Cabinet position, he’d be out of the Senate. His replacement would be chosen by New Hampshire Governor John Lynch- a Democrat.
Zimbabwe has finally given up on its own currency, shortly after launching a Z$100 trillion note that’s equivalent to $30 U.S. . Finance Minister Patrick Chinamasa announced that all of the country’s businesses would be allowed to conduct their transactions in other, more valuable, currencies. Previously, only licensed businesses were allowed this freedom.
