Iceland’s New Gay, Female PM

Iceland’s new interim prime minister, Johanna Sigurdardottir, is the world’s first openly gay PM. She’s also taking over the reigns during precarious economic times for her country. Even quick economic actions are unlikely to win her party victory in the upcoming special election.

Stimulus Plan Passes the House

The stimulus plan passed the House today with a vote of 244-188. The dissenting votes consisted of 11 Democrats and the whole of the House Republicans. After being catered to extensively in order to woo their support, not a single Republican cast an affirmative vote.
