Friday Link Roundup

Europe’s More Screwed Than U.S.: Um…yay? Baseline Scenario breaks down why the economic situation in Europe is worse than it is here. Arnold Kling pops in to add hilarious “United States as the ‘tallest pygmy’” metaphor.

How’s that Bipartisanship Going? To no one’s surprise, the House passed the stimulus plan with 0 Republican votes (7 Dems crossed the aisle to vote no). Now it is back to the Senate. The important things to look at here are the fact that Nancy Pelosi looks like Mary Tyler Moore in the pic included at the link and that the name of the plan abbreviates to ARRA which, as Krugman points out, lets us all talk like pirates. Arrr!

Geithner’s Plan (or Lack Thereof): Robert Borosage (HuffPo) thinks it is a “very bad bank plan” that “won’t even work”. WaPo’s Marie Cocco isn’t thrilled about the plan either but thinks Obama should’ve stood by his (money) man while the announcement was being made. Economists everywhere still trying to figure out what Geithner was talking about.

RIP: 50 people were killed last night when Flight 3407 crashed into a home in New York. Among the dead (passengers, crew and one person on the ground) was a 9/11 widow deeply involved in 9/11 activism.
