Tales of the Black Freighter is a comic read by an ancillary character in Watchmen. The story within the story follows a shipwrecked man on his quest to return to his town before a pirate ship attacks his loved ones. The text of the pirate story weaves into the plot of the Watchmen, serving both as subtext and allegory. TotBF was released on DVD this week as an animated film to supplement the actual movie.
