Another Day, Another Republican Apologizing To Limbaugh

20 March 2009 No Comment

This is getting into “dog bites man” territory by now. Today it’s the Republican candidate for the NY-20 Congressional seat, Jim Tedisco, who accidentally told the truth and now must recant. From TPM:

“Rush Limbaugh is meaningless to me,” Tedisco told an editorial board meeting of the Oneonta Daily Star. “The only constituency I’m worried about are the residents of the 20th Congressional District.”

If the apology had followed any faster, it would’ve been pre-emptive. Arthur Delaney at HuffPo got this from Tedisco’s campaign:

“Jim’s comments were in response to a question about what voters are asking him about on the campaign trail,” writes campaign spokesman Adam Kramer. “So far, the concerns he has been hearing from voters on the campaign trail have been local in nature, such as his support for lower property taxes, fiscal responsibility, and his opponent’s appalling support for the AIG bonus loophole. That was his point and any effort to characterize it otherwise is a distortion of the facts.”

Note the bit at the end saying that the apology isn’t an apology, but a clarification. Kind of like when a guy in a bar has you by the collar, with his fist on its way to your jaw, as you blurt out “When I said ‘drunken asshole’ I didn’t mean you!”

Fortunately, apologizing to Rush is easier than ever, thanks to the DCCC’s Republican Apology Machine. Yes, they’ve already added Tedisco.
