According to TPM, Proposition 8 has been upheld but the 18,000 marriages that took place will remain valid.

California’s state Supreme Court will decide today whether Proposition 8 was constitutional. There are no clear indications which way the decision will go but the recent gains (and the New Hampshire setback) have increased the importance of California’s decision for both sides of the issue. California is a very large, influential state and overturning Proposition 8 could speed up the process across the country.

Unless every major news agency is jumping the wrong gun this morning, President Obama will nominate Judge Sonia Sotomayor to replace retired SCOTUS Justice David Souter. Obama will be on the teevee making an announcement at 10:15 EST.
