10 Free Photoshop Brushes- Grunge

I haven’t been working on my design projects the last few weekends so it slipped my mind to do a design resource roundup. My posting has continued to be sporadic over the past few weeks due in part to a busy real world schedule and Moue’s occasional refusal to allow me to log in. But I’m back and I bring with me the colorful vector packs I promised a few weeks ago.

Most of the packs below are low color or in black and white. I’ll bring out the colorful packs next week. I’ve indicated whether you can use them for just personal use or commercial as well and the type of file(s) the pack is available in.

Using photos as a reference point for your design in Illustrator can make the process easier but that doesn’t mean that all of the tutorials below are easy. Some (like the Scanner Darkly one) will take hours for even those well versed in vector illustration. Most of the tutorials use a combo of Photoshop and Illustrator but the few that only use one program use Illustrator.

There are thousands of Photoshop brush directories online and hundreds of thousands of brushes- most of which are great to look at and even better to use. The vast majority of brushes are free to use for personal projects. Commercial use is where the rules differ. Some sets require you to buy a license; others merely ask that you request permission to use the art commercially.
But if you don’t want to pay and are too antisocial to contact people through email to ask them a question, there are some brushes …
