Domestic Violence Awareness Ad Deemed Too Violent

Earlier this month, the UK charity Women’s Aid released a domestic violence PSA starring Keira Knightley. The ad, intended to be shown in theaters and on television, features Knightley leaving a film set and coming home to an abusive partner. She walks into the apartment, finds a broken mirror and offers her partner a towel for his injured hand. He throws it in her face.

Vermont has passed a law to allow same-sex marriages! The state legislature has voted 100-49 to overturn Gov. Jim Douglas’ veto. Vermont is following very closely in the footsteps of Iowa, who passed a similar law last week. Connecticut and Massachusetts were the first two states to do so. It is important to note, however, that the other states passed their laws because of judicial rulings while Vermont is the first state to proactively pass a marriage equality law.

Torture doesn’t work. Actual intelligence professionals-not armchair generals, or folks who think 24 is based on a true story-know this, and have been saying so for years. And last Sunday we learned that despite their protests to the contrary, the Bush administration knew this, too.
