I know his style rubs some people the wrong way, but Matt Taibbi cracks me up and reminds me of a really clever friend you would debate economic policy with over shots of Jack Daniels. Taibbi’s fantastic piece (the opening paragraph alone is enough for a wordgasm) on Goldman Sachs is now up in full at the Rolling Stone website.

Posting has been light from all of us for a variety of reasons.  For my own part, no, I did not forget the vow I made a mere three weeks ago to post more regularly.  I’ve been traveling for work and am just back in from the Dominican Republic this weekend, and spent most of yesterday recovering from the exhaustion and sicknesses that traveling often entails (for me, anyway.)

Unless every major news agency is jumping the wrong gun this morning, President Obama will nominate Judge Sonia Sotomayor to replace retired SCOTUS Justice David Souter. Obama will be on the teevee making an announcement at 10:15 EST.

Except for that lynching part: Pat Buchanan of MSNBC was on Chris Matthews’ show talking about a white firefighter who lost out on a promotion due to affirmative action. Buchanan said, “What is happening now to white men right now is exactly what was done to black folks for years”. Matthews and co-guest Joan Walsh were quick to label that statement as flawed.

I’m absolutely convinced that somewhere amongst the large pile of Bush administration torture documents is a memo giving Jonah Goldberg legal cover for doing horrible, unspeakable things to basic logic. How else can one account for his misrepresentation and misappropriation of the legacy of Jack Kemp, which he accomplishes by putting said logic through contortions that would outdo a spasmodic python?
