Charts of the Day: Who Speaks for the Parties?

It isn’t surprising that Obama got such strong numbers considering he’s the current president and is still polling well overall. But the majority of responders had no opinion on who spoke for the Republican Party. The strongest showing for a specified person was Rush Limbaugh, who received the nod from participants of both parties. But even Rush didn’t make it to the 50% mark. The election was seven months ago and they still haven’t secured a publicly recognized leader. The party should hire a life planner.

The Democratic Party is getting positively gleeful over the “Rush as GOP head” talking point that was handed to us on a silver platter. The DCCC website now has a Rush apology generator that visitors can use to apologize to the head honcho on behalf of various Republicans (three that have already apologized and, hilariously, Eric Cantor with the words (coming soon) next to him).

The stimulus plan passed the House today with a vote of 244-188. The dissenting votes consisted of 11 Democrats and the whole of the House Republicans. After being catered to extensively in order to woo their support, not a single Republican cast an affirmative vote.

Well, it looks like they’re trying to keep Joe in the fold after all:
Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn.) easily won a vote to remain chairman of a key committee today and will stay in the Democratic caucus despite his high-profile criticism of President-elect Barack Obama and his support of Sen. John McCain during the presidential campaign.
Lieberman agreed to surrender his position on the Environment and Public Works Committee, leaving the panel and his subcommittee chairmanship there. But Lieberman will remain chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee and head …
