Though I am currently attempting a move to the D.C. area, if I got to select from any housing arrangement, I’d choose a house a bit out in the country with room enough for large gardens (floral and vegetable) and fruit trees. As it stands, I’ll have to live vicariously through W’s Homemade with their homemade jams and packs of seeds.

Lemonbird Homemade Jams

I mentioned in my original Lemonbird feature that I come from a family that’s big on canning so homemade jam is an area in which I’ve done considerable amounts of taste testing. While my family tends to stick to the traditional (not a bad thing, necessarily), Lemonbird caught my attention because they make some really interesting flavor choices that would make their jams a more usable product than the store bought jams that are mostly for PB & J sandwiches or toast.

I come from a family where homemade jam is fairly easy to come by since some relative is always in the process of canning. Because of that, I tend to be pretty harsh on store bought jams since they… tend to be grossly inferior gelatinous globs of fruit. But I have high hopes for Lemon Bird’s Homemade Jams.  They create jams in the French tradition using seasonal ingredients that they purchase from the local farmer’s market. As you’ll see below, the flavors range from the sweet to the savory.
