Congratulations, Justice Sonia Sotomayor!  Sotomayor was confirmed earlier today by a vote of 68 to 31-nine Republicans crossed the aisle to vote for her.
With the ascension of one “wise Latina” to the highest court in the land, I assume the rounding up and imprisoning of whites will begin any day now, so I’ll have to celebrate while I can.

I’m thinking maybe gay marriage is dangerous for society.

Earlier today the Iowa Supreme Court ruled, unanimously, that the state’s gay marriage ban is unconstitutional.  Methinks the gay marriage opponents are marching against the forces of history.
I’m a little torn on this.  On the one hand, this is excellent news, and I’m always thrilled when people’s civil rights are recognized.  On the other hand, I’m now living in a world where same-sex marriage is legal in Iowa but not in California, and it’s freaking me the hell out.

The GOP had to choose their new chair this past Friday. After looking at the candidates, the way the election was run, and who emerged as the winner, I’m feeling better and better about the Democrats’ political future.

I’m back from the swearing in and the parade.  I’ve taken a warm shower, but I’m still thawing out-I was standing in the cold from 4:45 am ’til 2, with only a 10 minute sit in the warming tent.  At one point, before the sun came up, I was contemplating how the PIC would compensate me if I had to have my frostbitten toes amputated.  It was all worth it, though.
The excitement in the air on the mall was palpable.  Early estimates are around 2 million people-they were stretched the …

It’s 3:30 in the morning, and I’m drinking coffee before I head down to the Lincoln Memorial.  In approximately eight hours, Barack Obama will take the oath of office and America will have our first black president.  It is nearly impossible not to feel a thrill as I write those words.  How fitting and how beautiful that the Inauguration is part of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day weekend, where we can be reminded of how far we’ve come.  The work is not done yet, but there is still a great …

The creativity of the Obama campaign never ceases to amaze me.  Via TPM, we see that Barack Obama is now buying virtual ad space in online games:
Last week we noted unconfirmed sightings of an “Obama for President” billboard in the Xbox 360 racing game Burnout Paradise. Today we’re able to report that it is, in fact, an official advertisement placed by the senator’s campaign team. “I can confirm that the Obama campaign has paid for in-game advertising in Burnout,” Holly Rockwood, director of corporate communications at Electronic Arts, the …

I don’t know what’s gotten into the crowd over at CNN, but they seem to have relearned one of the cardinal rules of journalism.  Just because the John McCain campaign says something, that doesn’t make it true.

I don’t know what’s gotten in to him, but this sounds more like some angry member of left blogistan than Richard Cohen.  I like it!
This goes along with Cohen’s article today, wherein he realizes that John McCain is not the most perfect, honorable, bipartisan, mavericky politician in the entire world and has turned into just another Republican.
I think McCain is starting to lose his base…
