Indie Retailer of the Day: Loser Pet Shop

The art from Loser Pet Shop allows you to root for the underdog. Well, there’s not actually a dog but there is a seasick goldfish, night blind owl and frog that fears the undead. All the prints are 8″ x 10″ and cost $20.00, though the cat and frog are also available in a 5″ x 7″ size for $12.00.

Indie Retailer of the Day: Barton’s Contemporary Designs

I’m usually not drawn to tropical inspired art since I’ve lived in Florida most of my life and it seems redundant. But there are dark clouds in the sky today and I went off searching for some cheer. The art at Barton’s Contemporary Designs has bright punches of color, natural elements and a slight surrealism to the pieces that make them a more low key way to integrate tropical art into your space.

Ahpeele has limited edition prints and handscreened clothing that have heavy hints of Japanese influence. Interesting without being garish, there are graphics of koi, subtle skulls and exotic flowers. They’re currently having a “For the Love of Spring” special. Buy two shirts and you’ll get a mystery T included for free.

Indie Retailer of the Day: A Melancholy Dwelling

The prints from A Melancholy Dwelling are done from paintings rather than digital creations, leaving in all those beautiful irregularities of a painted piece. I love the slightly gothic style. I also love the fact that the prints are 50% for a limited time.

Indie Retailer of the Day: Kathy Panton Illustration

Australian artist Kathy Panton’s gouache (a paint similar to watercolor) prints are vibrant in color, mostly abstract in nature and a great way to add a vibrant pop into a dreary environment. The prints are shipped safely and are printed on a heavy matte paper.

Indie Retailer of the Day: GingerDead

GingerDead and Friends is a darkly funny webcomic created by Calan Ree. The main characters-Gingerdead, his twin sister Vendetta and his skeletal girlfriend leNoir- star in strips that are a pinch gothic, a shake punk with a heaping side of haiku. You can find more GingerDead products at the CafePress store; the items I selected below are from the Etsy shop.

Indie Retailer of the Day: Zygopsyche

Zygopsyche makes this adorable and terrifying collection of plush things inspired by the tribbles from Star Trek. Be prepared to fall in love with something captivatingly ugly.

I had to check our archives to make sure we hadn’t already featured K. Zukowski’s art because it is right up our metaphorical alley (which, if you’re curious, is behind our metaphorical Thai restaurant). K. Zukowski’s art prints are created using original designs and vintage images. The prints are compatible in size and design- and super cheap- so they would work well framed and hung as a set.

I’m a sucker for pin-up imagery, and these two riffs on the material by Leonardo Herrera are worthwhile homages.  They might resemble fashion pictorial a little bit too much to facilitate hanging them in every home, but I can definitely see them adding a certain something to the right wall.  The fella version is after the fold and check out Mr. Herrera’s etsy shop for a few other images, some more risque.

Late entry today (technically tonight) on the Indie Retailer front. But I put forth for thee the art of Christina Lyon, sold via Studio Lyon. Ms. Lyon uses mixed media techniques (mostly ink, acrylics, paper and digital) to create some slightly vintage appearing art prints. There’s also some photography over there but I’ve focused on the art pieces below.
