Indie Retailer of the Day: Ahpeele

Apparel, Art, Indie Retailers 1 April 2009 | 0 Comments

Ahpeele has limited edition prints and handscreened clothing that have heavy hints of Japanese influence. Interesting without being garish, there are graphics of koi, subtle skulls and exotic flowers. They’re currently having a “For the Love of Spring” special. Buy two shirts and you’ll get a mystery T included for free.

Indie Retailer of the Day: Nerdy Shirts

Apparel, Indie Retailers 5 March 2009 | 0 Comments

My actual, paid “day” job is as a copy writer. I ghostwrite content for websites, blogs, ebooks, etc. During one of my jobs, I came across Nerdy Shirts’ Batman Costume Hoodie. Styled after the Batman who was more camp than emo, the hoodie includes a detachable cape, drop down mask and ears on the hood.

Indie Retailer of the Day: Happy Family

Accessories, Apparel, Indie Retailers 24 February 2009 | 0 Comments

Happy Family hardly needs press from the likes of us after rubbing elbows with The Daily Show and NPR (yes, that NPR). But they had my attention at the microscope t shirt and kept it with pirates, vintage graphics and octopi. Unlike many shops on Etsy, all of their shirt styles are available in all sizes so you don’t have to wait for a listing in your size to pop up.

Indie Retailer of the Day: Ex-Boyfriend

Apparel, Featured, Indie Retailers 2 February 2009 | 0 Comments

Ex-Boyfriend has t shirts. Ex-Boyfriend has t-shirts that feature illustrations including robots, wounded candy, monkeys and logo spoofs. Robots, wounded candy, monkeys and logo spoofs are awesome. Therefore Ex-Boyfriend is awesome. The logic is flawless.

Indie Retailer of the Day: The Chop Shop

Apparel, Indie Retailers 1 December 2008 | 0 Comments

The Chop Shop is the merchandise arm of the graphic design company The Chopping Block, who boast of “world domination through graphic design.”  You may not become a global overlord wearing their clothing but at least you’ll have a shirt on your back. Add that to a pair of shoes and you’ve got establishment entry privileges. Don’t [...]

TopatoCo., the brainchild of “cyber cartoonist” Jeffrey Rowland (Wigu), is a one stop shop to buy products for many of the best web comics around. This is where to go if you’d like a shirt, poster or book from such comics as A Softer World, Dinosaur Comics, Octopus Pie, WhiteNinja, Wondermark and more. I decided [...]

Indie Retailer of the Day: James Anthony Apparel

Apparel, Indie Retailers 11 November 2008 | 0 Comments

The graphics screenprinted on James Anthony Apparel come from engravings, illustrations and woodcuts from the past three centuries. The nontoxic ink is cured to prevent running and printed on American Apparel or Alternative Apparel. The line caught the attention of author Augusten Burroughs and he had James Anthony design a shirt for his official site.

“His [...]

Indie Retailer of the Day: Regeneration

Apparel, Indie Retailers 29 July 2008 | 0 Comments

Los Angeles based Regeneration focuses on recycled and eco-friendly products. The few items they sell that aren’t on organic materials are recycled from items found at thrift stores. The graphic designs are really quirky. I’m in love with the leggings that have cell division printed up the back of the legs.

Indie Retailer of the Day: Beta

Apparel, Indie Retailers 28 July 2008 | 0 Comments

If you’re in the market for some sartorial non sequiturs, buy shirts from Beta. Graphic designs like a mixed tape throwing ninja or a unicorn warding off F15 jets are screen printed onto American Apparel t shirts. The shirts I marked as unisex are technically men’s shirts but are great for women who don’t like [...]
