Indie Retailer of the Day: Branch Handmade

Apparel, Headline, Home Decor, Indie Retailers 26 May 2009 | 1 Comment

Branch Handmade has clothing, pillowcases and towels screenprinted with fantastic, vintage stock photo inspired graphics. The pillowcases do not come with the pillows inside- which I actually consider a positive since it is harder to find cute cases than it is covered pillows.

Indie Retailer of the Day: Happy Family

Accessories, Apparel, Indie Retailers 24 February 2009 | 0 Comments

Happy Family hardly needs press from the likes of us after rubbing elbows with The Daily Show and NPR (yes, that NPR). But they had my attention at the microscope t shirt and kept it with pirates, vintage graphics and octopi. Unlike many shops on Etsy, all of their shirt styles are available in all sizes so you don’t have to wait for a listing in your size to pop up.

Indie Retailer of the Day: Fat Cat Designs 6

For Kids, Home Decor, Indie Retailers 18 February 2009 | 2 Comments

Friend of Moue (FoM) Adam became a proud uncle last week and I’ve been looking for an appropriate shop to feature in honor of baby Stan. I’m not fond of many of the indie children clothing companies out there because the goods are rather expensive for something that’s only going to be worn for a relatively short period of time.

But decorations have a much larger shelf life. Fat Cat Designs 6 has lamp-shades and accessories designed to match popular children’s bedding.

Indie Retailer of the Day: Track and Field Designs

Accessories, Indie Retailers 12 February 2009 | 0 Comments

Track and Field Designs sells pillows, pins, magnets and broaches. But I want to focus on their laptop bags because they’re functional without forsaking style. And carrying a laptop in a bag emblazoned with a typewriter appeals to my sense of humor.

Indie Retailer of the Day: 31 Corn Lane

Accessories, Indie Retailers 11 February 2009 | 0 Comments

The bags from 31 Corn Lane have a retro feel without looking like part of a costume and are versatile without being boring. And they do all that while maintaining a fairly low price tag. That’s some multitasking.

There are indie retailer trends that I’ve come across time and again in different formats. There are zombies, robots, pirates, steampunk and…mustaches. Here are five ways to channel your inner Tom Selleck.

Indie Retailer of the Day: Ex-Boyfriend

Ex-Boyfriend has t shirts. Ex-Boyfriend has t-shirts that feature illustrations including robots, wounded candy, monkeys and logo spoofs. Robots, wounded candy, monkeys and logo spoofs are awesome. Therefore Ex-Boyfriend is awesome. The logic is flawless.

Indie Retailer of the Day: MAUstudio

Accessories, Featured, Indie Retailers, Jewelry, Paper Goods 30 January 2009 | 0 Comments

I am a big fan of “to do” lists because I usually have a lot going on and I’m working with a very small, cluttered memory span. While Remember the Milk does the trick for me online, I’m still a fan of the pen and paper variety because of one thing: stickers. Yes, at 27 years old I am still incredibly motivated by charts with stickers awarded for achievement. How’s that for social conditioning?

It was through the stickers that I came to find MAUstudio. Came for the little ninja stickers, stayed for the accessories and stationary.

Indie Retailer of the Day: Rock Scissor Paper

Indie Retailers, Paper Goods 26 January 2009 | 0 Comments

The paper goods at the brilliantly named Rock Scissor Paper have a retro tinge that steers the products away from the overly precious and toward the knowingly kitsch. Best yet, the shop is offering 20% off on select cards until February 2nd.

Indie Retailer of the Day: Designs by K Zukowski

Art, Indie Retailers 20 January 2009 | 3 Comments

I had to check our archives to make sure we hadn’t already featured K. Zukowski’s art because it is right up our metaphorical alley (which, if you’re curious, is behind our metaphorical Thai restaurant). K. Zukowski’s art prints are created using original designs and vintage images. The prints are compatible in size and design- and [...]
