Hurricane Ike is back down to a Category 1 storm and will be moving on from Cuba into the Gulf of Mexico shortly. It is expected to gain some strength there and continue its course towards its predicted landing point somewhere along the Texas-Mexico border early Saturday morning.

Hurricane Ike has now been upgraded to a Category 3 (again) and is set to approach south Florida by Monday. I’m in south Florida and not exactly thrilled to see a Category 3 heading our way but I’m more concerned that Hurricane Ike seems to be heading towards Louisiana. Not cool, Ike. Not cool at all.

I managed to escape Tropical Storm Fay with relatively little damage excepting a now naked palm tree and a slightly indented shed. But there was a lot of flooding in my area and the region where Fay came on shore was hit by Hurricane Wilma a few years ago and they were still trying to recover from that. So it wasn’t a hassle-free storm.
