The sheriff of Cook County, Illinois who announced he would stop serving eviction notices gave in after only a week. On October 9th, Sheriff Tom Dart said he would stop serving notices because the collection agencies weren’t doing their job in ensuring that the proper people were being evicted. The main problem came from renters who had not been informed by their landlord that the building had fallen into foreclosure. Apparently the collection agencies offered to do a better job because Dart returned to eviction enforcement on October 16th.

Sheriff Tom Dart of Cook County, Illinois announced yesterday that he will no longer serve foreclosure eviction notices. Dart feels that the lenders sending his employees out to serve evictions haven’t done enough work on their end to find out who is living in the property being foreclosed. Landlords who have not informed their tenants that the building has been foreclosed are a typical problem. 
In Cook County, foreclosures are expected to reach a record high of 43,000 this year, compared with 18,916 in 2006.
